Medical Weight Management
Weight care, led by a provider. One package, with a $65 starting visit. A provider licensed in your state looks at your health, history, medicines and goals, orders lab work if needed, and goes over the options with you: FDA-approved injections or tablets, which your provider sends to LillyDirect or NovoCare Pharmacy (you pay them directly) or to your own pharmacy to use insurance; or a compounded option from StackRx when you need a dose or combination that isn’t commercially available.
- A $65 starting visit with a provider licensed in your state
- Lab work if your provider asks for it
- FDA-approved or compounded options, chosen with your provider
- $45 follow-up visits for check-ins and dose changes
Personalized plan · $65 visit to start. Prices are preliminary.
How it works
- Answer the evaluation: your health and family history, your weight and goals, and every medicine and supplement you take.
- Get lab work if your provider asks for it.
- Your provider reviews everything with you and decides if treatment is right for you. FDA-approved medicines are sent to LillyDirect, NovoCare Pharmacy or your own pharmacy; a compounded option is prepared by a licensed pharmacy and shipped in discreet packaging to protect your privacy.
- Check in so your provider can see how it’s going and adjust your plan.
- What’s in it
- Your provider decides: guidance on eating, activity and sleep, and prescription medication only if it’s right for you
- Medication
- If it’s right for you: an FDA-approved GLP-1 injection or tablet, sent to LillyDirect, NovoCare Pharmacy or your own pharmacy; or, when you need a dose or combination that isn’t commercially available, a compounded GLP-1 injection or a compounded custom capsule from StackRx
- Labs
- If your provider asks: blood work such as blood sugar, cholesterol, thyroid and kidney function
- Who it’s for
- Adults who want medical help with their weight. FDA-approved weight medicines are for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes
- Cost
- Visits: $65 to start, then $45 for each follow-up or dose change. Medicine is paid separately: to LillyDirect, NovoCare Pharmacy or your pharmacy for FDA-approved medicines, or to StackRx for a compounded option.
What your plan can include.
- An evaluation (To start): Your health and family history, your weight and goals, what you’ve tried before, and every medicine and supplement you take, reviewed by a provider licensed in your state.
- Lab work (If your provider asks): Blood work such as blood sugar, cholesterol, thyroid and kidney function, to see what may be affecting your weight and whether a medication is safe for you.
- FDA-approved medication (If it’s right for you): FDA-approved weight medicines, such as GLP-1 injections and tablets. Your provider sends the prescription to LillyDirect or NovoCare Pharmacy, the makers’ own pharmacies, and you pay them directly; or to your own pharmacy to use insurance.
- Compounded medication (Only when you need it): A compounded GLP-1 injection at a dose the FDA-approved medicines don’t come in, or a compounded custom capsule, when your provider determines you need one. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved: the FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality.
- Check-ins (As you go): Your provider asks how it’s going, side effects included, and changes your plan when needed.
What to expect
- First weeks
- Your evaluation is reviewed, with lab work if your provider wants it, and your plan starts if treatment is right for you.
- If you take medication
- Doses usually start low and go up slowly, which can help with side effects such as nausea. Your provider sets the pace.
- Ongoing
- Your provider checks in regularly and adjusts your plan. Everyone responds differently, and results vary from person to person.
Important safety information
Before you start
Your provider reviews your health history, medicines and allergies before prescribing, and prescribes only if it’s right for you. Tell your care team about any side effect, and get emergency care for chest pain, trouble breathing, or swelling of the face, lips or throat.
Common side effects of GLP-1 medications
Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, indigestion, headache and tiredness are the most common, usually early on and as the dose goes up. They often ease with time. Tell your provider if they don’t.
Important safety information for GLP-1 medications
GLP-1 medications for weight carry a boxed warning: in studies in rodents, they caused thyroid C-cell tumors. It isn’t known whether they cause these tumors, including medullary thyroid cancer, in people. Don’t take them if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer, or if you have multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Tell your provider right away about a lump or swelling in your neck, trouble swallowing, a hoarse voice or shortness of breath. They can also cause inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), gallbladder problems, low blood sugar (especially with insulin or a sulfonylurea), kidney problems from dehydration, and serious allergic reactions. They aren’t used during pregnancy. Get emergency care for severe stomach pain that doesn’t go away, with or without vomiting.
FDA status
Some GLP-1 medications are FDA-approved for chronic weight management in adults, alongside diet and activity. Compounded GLP-1 medications are not FDA-approved: the FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality. Your provider prescribes a compounded medication only when they determine it’s medically necessary for you.
About Medical Weight Management
Will I be prescribed a GLP-1?
Only if your provider decides it’s right for you after your evaluation. Some people are better served by other options, and some can’t take weight medication at all.
Are compounded medications FDA-approved?
No. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved; the FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality. Your provider prescribes one only when they determine it’s medically necessary for you, and a licensed pharmacy prepares it for you.
What does it cost?
Visits: $65 to start, then $45 for each follow-up or dose change. Medicine is separate. FDA-approved medicines are paid to LillyDirect or NovoCare Pharmacy, or through your insurance at your pharmacy. Compounded options are paid to StackRx: semaglutide vials from $50, tirzepatide vials from $99 and the custom capsule from $55 a month.
Who can’t take GLP-1 medications?
People with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN 2), and people who are pregnant. Your provider reviews your full history, including pancreatitis, gallbladder or kidney problems.
Are you affiliated with Eli Lilly or Novo Nordisk?
