  • Once a week, at home
  • Dose set and adjusted by your provider
  • Filled by a licensed pharmacy

Weekly injection · $65 visit · medicine from $199/mo, paid to the pharmacy. Prices are preliminary.

How it works

  1. Answer the evaluation: your health and family history, your weight and goals, and every medicine and supplement you take.
  2. Get lab work if your provider asks for it.
  3. If your provider prescribes it, they send it to LillyDirect or NovoCare Pharmacy, which bills you directly and ships it to you, or to your own pharmacy to use your insurance.
  4. Inject once a week, on the same day each week. Doses start low and go up slowly; your provider sets the pace.

What to expect

First weeks
A low starting dose, to help your body adjust. Nausea and other stomach side effects are most common early on.
The next few months
Your provider raises your dose step by step, if you’re tolerating it, and checks in along the way.
Ongoing
Your provider reviews how it’s going and adjusts your plan. Everyone responds differently.

Important safety information

Before you start

Your provider reviews your health history, medicines and allergies before prescribing, and prescribes only if it’s right for you. Tell your care team about any side effect, and get emergency care for chest pain, trouble breathing, or swelling of the face, lips or throat.

Common side effects of GLP-1 medications

Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, indigestion, headache and tiredness are the most common, usually early on and as the dose goes up. They often ease with time. Tell your provider if they don’t.

Important safety information for GLP-1 medications

GLP-1 medications for weight carry a boxed warning: in studies in rodents, they caused thyroid C-cell tumors. It isn’t known whether they cause these tumors, including medullary thyroid cancer, in people. Don’t take them if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer, or if you have multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Tell your provider right away about a lump or swelling in your neck, trouble swallowing, a hoarse voice or shortness of breath. They can also cause inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), gallbladder problems, low blood sugar (especially with insulin or a sulfonylurea), kidney problems from dehydration, and serious allergic reactions. They aren’t used during pregnancy. Get emergency care for severe stomach pain that doesn’t go away, with or without vomiting.

FDA status

This is an FDA-approved medication: the FDA has reviewed it for safety and effectiveness for chronic weight management in adults, alongside diet and activity.
